Résumé:
This dissertation investigates the illusion of promoting democracy in Iraq during Barack
Obama’s presidency. Initially, this research explores general background about the country of
Iraq; it describes Iraq’s location, political system, the foundation of its governmental structure
and its long history of bloody warsespecially with the surrounding countries Kuwait and Iran.
Furthermore, Iraq historically has experienced different American foreign policies and
military engagements; this research sheds the light on Obama’s era and the impact of his
doctrine on the future of Iraq. Italso demonstrates Obama’s different kind of commitment in
Iraq and to what extent this commitment succeeded. In fact Obama’s foreign policy in Iraq
was highly critical, because it gave the American -Iraqi relationships a different shapes, which
Obama promised to turn page with Iraq and to deal with its internal crises responsibly.
Crucially Obama’s decision to withdraw the military forces from Iraq had many unexpected
results negative or positive. Hence, this research examines Obama’s promises to build a
democratic leadership in Iraq.
