Abstract: What is agreed upon is that slavery now belongs to the past that is part of history after its abolishment in the nineteenth century. However, slavery today has become a contested term especially if opponents’ stance is taken into account, assuming that slavery still exists all over the world, particularly in Africa. In this regard, the current dissertation explores the issue of modern slavery in this continent where it perpetuates as a historical inheritance. In addition, the research work investigates the extremely negative impact of the phenomenon on African societies, as well as government reactions to the issue. As a starting point, a brief history of slavery in Africa will be given. Then a deep exploration of the issue under study is tackled including the causes of modern slavery, its forms, types and cadence of expansion. Finally, to prove the existence of this disguised crime and its impact on the different levels particularly in African societies, Sudan is selected as a case study.
