Abstract: aste valorization in the field of civil engineering is a significant sector, as recycling waste addresses two major impacts: environmental and economic. Concrete is the most produced and consumed construction material worldwide. Due to rapid urbanization, it is considered the most cost-effective and easiest to use. However, when analyzing its life cycle, the most polluting phase is cement production. The kilns required for this process rely on fossil fuels and emit large amounts of CO₂. Most research conducted in recent years has focused on improving technologies related to clinker production. These studies mainly target kiln operation and the substitution of natural rocks with industrial waste or biomass, which reduces the temperature required for the process and lowers CO₂ emissions due to the decarbonation of limestone. This work fits within this context and consists of a synthesis study on the valorization of biomass as an additive in construction materials and its influence on the properties and performance of these materials.
