Abstract: The central aim of thesis is to thoroughly examine the recovery process, using Deb Caletti's A Heart in a Body in the World as a case study. Hence, the study attempts to discuss how Annabelle, the novel’s protagonist, deals with her mental health issues and how she navigates and demonstrates resilience in a traditionally male-dominated environment. To initiate this investigation, analytical methodology is used to examine what Deb Caletti is trying to express through her novel. The study employs two theoretical frameworks: the trauma theory and the feminism theory. On the one hand, the trauma theory is used to examine the effect of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on the protagonist, Annabelle, and to determine the process of healing utilised by her. On the other hand, the novel employs feminist theory to explore concepts of female empowerment and resilience through the lens of the female protagonist. Indeed, Annabelle’s courage and determination convey a message of female strength. Finally, this thesis highlights the role of contemporary young adult literature in providing readers with inspiring stories that resonate with their experiences and challenges.
