The aim of this study is to synthesize and characterize Ni-Pt bimetallic catalysts supported on Al2O3 or SiO2, and to compare their activity in benzene hydrogenation reaction.
The catalysts are synthesized using the metal precursors co-impregnation method, followed by radiolysis reduction.
SEM observations reveal good particles dispersion on both catalysts surfaces.
For 5% Ni- 0.5% Pt/Al2O3 catalyst, the structural study shows the formation of Ni0, Pt0 and, NiPt and Ni3Ptintermetallic phases.
The XRD of 5% Ni-0.5% Pt/SiO2 catalyst confirms that silica is amorphous. No nickel or platinum diffraction lines were observed. However, the appearance of NiSi interaction phase was noticed.
Both types of catalysts are tested in Benzene hydrogenation reaction to cyclohexane. They have both high conversion rates. However, the Ni-Pt/SiO2 catalyst is slightly more efficient than Ni-Pt/Al2O3. |
