Fortuitement découverts en février 2018, l’article abordera, après une brève présentation historique du site, les données relatives à l'ensemble des documents inédits selon une méthode propre à l’épigraphiste (copie et déchiffrement de l'inscription, traduction puis interprétation). Les nouveaux gentilices et cognomina révélés par ces inscriptions viennent enrichir le dossier onomastique de cette cité durant la période romaine. This article aims to study five new epigraphic documents from the site of "Oum Gréguèche" the ancient Civitas Nattabutum, located 64 km southwest of Guelma and 3 km from the Municipality of Ain Makhlouf. Fortuitously discovered in February 2018, the article will discuss, after a brief historical presentation of the site, the data relating to all the unpublished documents according to a method specific to the epigraphist (copy and decryption of the inscription, translation then interpretation). The new gentiles and cognomina revealed by these inscriptions enrich the onomastic record of this city during the Roman period. The present article focuses on the role of ‘Indirect rule’, which was applied by colonial Britain to shape the Sierra Leone society. Through a descriptive analytical method, this paper examines how this system, which was based on the role of chiefs as intermediate rulers to dominate the interior regions beyond the coastal areas around Freetown, vertically altered social organization and created new social classes in colonial Sierra Leone. The study reveals that the social class division created by this system was an alien structure that contradicted the traditional social order, paved the way for the formation of an interior educated elite, a proletariat, and a rural class of peasants, and eventually steered the country towards class conflict that manifested in an ongoing struggle between the marginalized classes and those who dominated and hence benefited from the state. A lucid consideration is drawn on the approaches adopted while dealing with vocabulary. The instruments administered are questionnaires, think aloud process, classroom observation, vocabulary levels test and a survey. The data is then examined according to three main theories: Schmitt’s taxonomy (1997, 2000), Sanaoui’s classification (1992, 1995) and Clouston research (1996). The former examines the use and usefulness of vocabulary learning strategies, and the latter pores over learners’ approaches to vocabulary. Ultimately, the findings indicate that determination strategies are the most used and social strategies are perceived as very useful. The study also reveals that few students share a common organized way of dealing with lexis while the majority are conspicuously less systematic in their practices.
